Polar vortex on Greenland.

There is always speculation on the behavior of the Polar vortex as the Arctic sea ice disappears and the way that it will affect the weather around the world.
One theory is that as the ice disappears and the Arctic ocean warms the next coldest spot would be the high plateau of Greenland and the polar vortex might centre on that with the subsequent chaos to weather patterns in the Northern hemisphere.
In the recent invasion of warm air into the Arctic when the temperature was 30C above normal a minor Polar vortex formed over Greenland which gives some credence to the theory.

Interesting and maybe a harsh awaking for Northern countries, especially if the Gulf Stream continues to slow and not benefit northern areas with warming ocean currents. Also there is a cousin in the Southern Hemisphere.

"Arctic heat spasm caused by stratosphere warming has a southern cousin"

"Although polar stratospheric warming is generally weaker and less sudden [in the south], it does occur," Dr Lim told Fairfax Media.
"It tends to warm up the surface in the Southern Ocean region, Australia, South Africa, and southern South America but makes it cold in the southern Atlantic and Indian Oceans - where no human being lives."

Hello Bob. The comparison with the Southern hemisphere is an interesting one. While I can understand the competing influences of an expanding Hadley cell and a repairing ozone hole the outcome might not be as smooth as it sounds and will more than likely end up with instability. Nothing in climate change seems to be for the better.

Decrease in southeastern Australian water availability linked to ongoing Hadley cell expansion

What is difficult for people to understand is that these changes are permanent (say, lasting 250 years or more). This is the end of the world as we know it. (For example, agricultural production is declining, which causes a brave new world that we never knew.)

As far as the decrease of the ozone hole, this is up for dispute. New ozone-killing pollution that we not treated in the original treaty are being emitted.

That's very interesting Dennis. The Hadley Cell expansion is imprtant to Northland as we will be in the tropical zone and more inclined to tropical storms.
